Microsoft Office - Excel

This month we take a look at five tips and tricks that you can use with Microsoft Excel.

Tip 1 - Date and Time

Type: =now() into any cell will give you the current date and time off your computers clock.

Type: =today() into any cell to get just the date.

Note: Formulas are not case sensitive.

Tip 2 - Creating a Drop Down list

Selecting the list option from the Data Validation's settings dialog box allows you to create a drop down list.

Tip 3 - Hide formula errors (#VALUE! or #DIV/0!)

Use IF and ISERROR functions to cloak an error. A formula such as the following below could be used to leave a cell empty if a formula error appears.

=IF(ISERROR(A1),"",A1)

Tip 4 - Transfer data from horizontal to vertical

Highlight the data you want to transpose and copy it. Select a separate area of the spreadsheet and click on the Paste Special command. Select the Transpose function and click OK.

Note: This function will also work for vertical to horizontal. It is Important to note that formulas will not transpose unless structured in a way that complements this function.

Tip 5 - Manual Wrapping

Pressing ALT + Enter in a line of text allows you to control the wrap point. Automatic wrapping is also available through the Alignment tab of the Format Cells dialog box.

  No Contact Training (Covid-19)

As we face constantly changing circumstances related to COVID-19, we’d like to update you on the steps we are taking as a business to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our staff and clients.

The Fourth R is providing none-contact training with an instructor via screen sharing software. This type of training combines the benefits of both customised instructor led and classroom based training with the convenience of a virtual learning environment. Virtual Fourth R allows people to learn in real time so it’s both interactive and participative. The key difference is that participants and trainer are not in the same physical location.

The benefits to you:

• No physical contact

• Live interaction with experienced and qualified instructors

• Dedicated online environment enables interactive exercises so delegates learn by doing

• Participation from the comfort of your own home or office

• Platform independent - delivery on PC and Mac – just need internet access

How does it work?

Typically sessions involve participants logging on to a Fourth R computer where the trainer is able to interact with them directly. The required visuals are viewed by both parties for the session. A physical manual is provide to the client prior to establishing a session. There will also be an audio facility provided by a separate audio bridge such as a telephone conference facility.
