Software Updates

With software updates, there are a number of considerations that need to be taken into account before you take that leap into the unknown.

Updates are provided by the creators of programs for various reasons based on user feedback, compatibility issues and security problems. For that reason, keeping up with updates will ensure your computer remains secure and the program continues to run optimally. Program and software updates also allow you to use the newest features available for the best user experience possible. However, there have been instances where users have installed software upgrades only to have negative experiences involving their computers not syncing with other devices, slow connection speeds and glitches with programs that haven’t been trialled extensively.

To avoid possible problems, do a bit of research before committing to a software update. You will be able to find user feedback online that should tell you whether or not you should go ahead with the update.

Microsoft Office 2016 - Access (Part 1)

This month we take look at three tips and tricks that you can use with Access.

Tip 1 - Hide the Navigation Panel

To do so, go into the BackStage View of the database, click on Options, Current Database. Under "Navigation," clear the checkmark next to "Display Navigation Pane".

Tip 2 - Press the Alt key

When you want to switch tabs and issue commands with the keyboard in Access 2016 (rather than with the mouse), press the Alt key.

Tip 3 - Link Tables

Click the Database Tools tab on the Ribbon and click the Relationships button in the Relationships group. If necessary, click the Design tab and then click the Show Table button to add tables to the Relationship window. Drag matching fields from one table to another in order to create a relationship.
