Web Browsers

In this series we are going to talk about internet/web browsers. We discuss the different types of browsers available and their origins.

What is a browser?

A web browser (commonly referred to as a browser) is a software application for retrieving, presenting, and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web. An information resource is identified by a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI/URL) and may be a web page, image, video or other piece of content. Hyperlinks (a reference to data that the reader can directly follow either by clicking or by hovering) present in resources enable users easily to navigate their browsers to related resources.

Next month we take a look at Microsoft’s Internet Explorer web browser.

Windows Vista (Part 2)

This month we take a look at another three tips and tricks for Windows Vista.

Tip 1 - Classic Start Menu

If you'd rather use classic Start Menu just right click on the taskbar, choose "Properties" from the context menu. Choose "Start Menu" tab, Select" Classic Start menu" radio button and press "Ok" button.

Tip 2 - Disable UAC Notification Messages

One of the most ridiculous features of Vista are the continuous “confirmation” messages. Messages that pop up nearly every time you attempt to run any unknown application. Almost all of which are completely unnecessary, and waste time. Here is how you can disable these annoying UAC notifications, quickly and easily:

Step One: Go to “Start” and click “Control Panel.”

Step Two: Click “User Accounts and Family Safety,” then click “Turn User Account Control On and Off.”

Tip 3 - Change your Boot Logo screen

If you find current Windows Vista boot logo screen boring you can enable the hidden "Aurora" boot screen. To do it go to the control Panel (use classic view), double click "Administrative Tools" and click "System Configuration" shortcut. Select "Boot" tab and check "No GUI boot" check box. If you restart your computer you'll see the hidden "Aurora" boot logo.
